Polban’s English Department Hosts Guest Lecture with PT KAI: Uncovering Creativity in Railway Industry Services

The English Department of Politeknik Negeri Bandung (Polban) held a public lecture titled Industry Goes to Campus: Transformasi PT KAI. This event, a collaboration between Polban and PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Persero, took place on Tuesday, September 24, 2024. The lecture was attended by faculty members and students from Polban’s English Department.

The event was opened with a speech by the Head of the English Department, Dra. Lina Meilinda, M.Hum. In her remarks, she emphasized the importance of collaboration between academia and industry. “This activity is expected to broaden students’ perspectives on the challenges and innovations in the workforce, especially in the transportation sector,” Lina stated.

The main speaker for the lecture was Mariyanto, Deputy EVP of PT KAI (Persero) Operational Area 2. He delivered a presentation on Berpikir Kreatif dalam Pelayanan: Studi Kasus Hospitality & Transformasi PT KAI (Persero), highlighting the importance of innovation and creativity in public service.

“Creativity is necessary for new innovations to emerge, ensuring that the public remains satisfied with the services we offer,” said Mariyanto.

Furthermore, Mariyanto explained that PT KAI’s transformation is not limited to enhancing digital services but also involves significant changes in organizational culture, technology, and a more customer-focused approach. PT KAI has implemented various innovations, such as developing digital-based services, improving the quality of railway services, and adding modern facilities on trains. All these efforts are made to maintain PT KAI’s relevance amidst global competition and increasing customer demands, particularly from the millennial and Gen Z generations.

“We are committed to continuously innovating and providing the best services for the public,” Mariyanto added. He also encouraged Polban students to be part of this transformation in the future. “You are the next generation expected to advance PT KAI even further,” he concluded.

This event aims to foster a closer relationship between PT KAI and Polban, as well as to provide students with deeper insights into the railway industry in Indonesia. PT KAI is determined to continue delivering the best for the public through innovation and excellent service. (JBI)
